BY LAND
Our
marina is located directly off of Freeway
I-5 south in Chula Vista only a few minutes
from downtown San Diego and/or Mexico.
Take the "J" Street/Marina Parkway exit off
of I-5, turning west towards the bay.
Continue west on Marina Parkway.
Enter
our parking lot at Bob's on the Bay
restaurant or continue on Marina Parkway to
Sandpiper Way. Turn left and you will find
our Dockmaster's office at the north end of
the marina complex building.
BY WATER
You
will find us situated in the southern end of
San Diego Bay in the Chula Vista Yacht
Harbor. Upon entering the bay from the sea
near Point Loma, follow the bay as it runs
past Point Loma, the home of the U.S. Navy's
research labs and Shelter Island.
Turning east, you'll cruise past Harbor
Island to port, the U.S. Naval Air Station
at North Island and Coronado to starboard.
The
bay next turns southeast and you cruise past
beautiful downtown San Diego with the
Embarcadero and the famous sailing ship,
Star of India, on your port.
Pass
under the Coronado bridge into the "South
Bay." The main channel runs along the east
side of the bay so you'll want to look for
bridge pilings #18 & #19 to enter the
channel.
The
home port of the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet at
the San Diego Naval Station will be seen to
port with many man-of-war ships tied up at
the piers. Always noticible is the large,
white Naval hospital ship.
Once
past the naval station will be a large
commercial area sometimes occupied by car
carriers, again on your port side. Always be
sure you stay well within the channel
markers. As you pass the large blue crane
you will notice the A-8 Free anchorage to
starboard. At this point the channel shifts
gradually to the west. You want to be
extremely careful, especailly at low tide,
to continue your course southwesterly
through the channel. You will notice another
channel at this juncture that crosses the
bay, directly west over to Coronado. Do not
take this route.
Continue southwest in the main channel and
look for GREEN bouy #7 and RED bouy #8. Even
the bay to the west of this area is very
shallow and more than one good skipper has
ran his vessel aground outside the markers.
Take a hard turn to port at RED #8 to begin
the "dogleg" into our harbor, then turn
starboard at RED #12, parallel to the beach
and sea wall pier.
Once
you enter the boat basin you will notice our
red pump out station directly ahead, The
CHULA VISTA MARINA's "A thru H" docks are to
your port. Docks "J thru M" are starboard.
You
may reach our office staff on VHF channel 16
for assistance. If the pump-out station is
clear, you are welcome to dock there
momentarily for assistance.
Come by and
meet our friendly and professional staff!
